New York Jets Mock Draft: Round 3, 65th Overall

Pittsburgh. player. 866. Scouting Report. EDGE. Patrick Jones II. 65. Pick Analysis

Edge rusher stands out as another obvious need for the New York Jets. This team has lacked impact talent on the edge for many years, but they find an interesting prospect at the position here at the top of the third round.

Patrick Jones II is an extremely exciting edge prospect who is explosive off of the ball and quick around the edge. He shows impressive flexibility when dipping around the corner and closes on the quarterback in an instant.

Jones is a gifted edge defender who always plays hard and clearly has a high ceiling at the next level. He feels like a perfect fit for the Jets as they swing for the fences at a major position of need.

With their fifth and final selection of this three-round mock draft, the Jets make an interesting addition to their offensive line. Alaric Jackson is a solid player at the left tackle position for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He is a big, strong and aggressive player who excels in the run game and holds his own as a pass protector.

Jackson is a solid overall offensive lineman, but he does struggle against raw speed on the edge. He is also a much better player when he is allowed to play forward and attack on a consistent basis. With this in mind, I like Jackson as an interior offensive lineman at the next level.

In this mock draft scenario, the Jets take a chance on Jackson late in the third round and immediately move him inside. This team lacks impact depth up front and Jackson would undoubtedly have a chance to come in and make an immediate impact.
