Atlanta Falcons 2021 NFL Draft Need #1 – Running Back

When the Atlanta Falcons were at their best was when their running game was thriving. A two-headed monster of Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman created nightmares out of the backfield for teams. Todd Gurley and Brian Hill don’t exactly do that.

Gurley has been a frame of his former self and will be a free agent at the end of the season, leaving an even bigger hole in the backfield for Atlanta. On top of that, Hill is also set to become a free agent, meaning the Falcons could opt to completely rebuild their backfield this coming offseason with a whole new unit at the position.

Luckily for Atlanta, the 2021 NFL Draft should be loaded with running back talent. Travis Etienne and Najee Harris have already shown to be top prospects, but players like Virginia Tech’s Khalil Herbert show that this class is deep as well.

The Falcons could very easily take a running back in the 2021 NFL Draft to pair with a veteran to have a new look in the backfield next year. With Gurley and Hill both potentially moving on, that is an idea that should be at the forefront of the Falcons’ offseason planning both now and when the new regime comes in.
