Draft Need #1 – Safety

It seems like every year we talk about how the Dallas Cowboys need to add help in the secondary, specifically safety, and every year they don’t. Well as fate would have it, the 2021 NFL Draft is looking to be no different.

The Dallas secondary has struggled so far this season and most of those struggles have come from the safety position. This past weekend, the Cowboys allowed Odell Beckham Jr. to have his first multiple touchdown game as a Cleveland Brown with two coming through the air. While Beckham was the most recent headline, he hasn’t been the only one.

In the first week of the season, Robert Woods totaled 105 receiving yards on the Cowboys secondary. In week two, Calvin Ridley went for 109 yards and two scores and then week three saw the Seahawks have two players hit the century mark, including three touchdowns from Tyler Lockett alone.

Needless to say, the Dallas secondary has had some rough showings early in the season. While fans might want to add a free agent in Earl Thomas, the 2021 NFL Draft might be the better place.

At their current pace, the Cowboys could still easily win the division and end up picking in the 20s again. This would put them in place to add a top safety at the right spot and revamp the middle of their secondary.
