Dallas Cowboys: Early top positions of need for 2021 NFL Draft
By Kyle Edmond
While the season is still young for the Dallas Cowboys, some are already looking to the 2021 NFL Draft and the top needs for the franchise.
We’re only four weeks into the NFL season, but fans of the Dallas Cowboys might want to start slipping a peek at the 2021 NFL Draft class. Despite a high-powered offense, the Cowboys have crawled into a 1-3 hole to begin the season.
Luckily, the NFC East as a whole is struggling, so 1-3 is still near the top of the division with Washington also at 1-3 and Philadelphia holding a tie. The Cowboys’ lone win came in a comeback over the Atlanta Falcons and they nearly did it again this past weekend against the Cleveland Browns. Nevertheless, Dallas is still struggling to get into the win column consistently.
While the year has started off strong for the offense and Dak Prescott, who has thrown for at least 450 yards in each of the last three games, the defense has been hard to watch. Plagued by injuries once again, the Dallas defense has now allowed 49 points to Cleveland, 38 points to Seattle, and 39 points to Atlanta over the last three weeks.
Even in the defense’s best game of the season, a week one loss to the Los Angeles Rams, they allowed the Rams to score 20 points and total 153 rushing yards to a group that was led by Malcolm Brown.
There are two big upsides, though, for Dallas fans. For one, they are playing in what looks to be the worst division in football and still have more than a shot at making the playoffs. The other, they have a full slate of draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft to build the defense back up.
While the defense will be the focal point, there are multiple areas that could use improvement during next year’s draft to help the Dallas Cowboys solidify their place atop the NFC East once again, which is seeming like an easier task each week.
