2021 NFL Draft: Three-round mock draft featuring early quarterback run
2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 17
Patrick Surtain II stands out as a great value selection in this range of the 2021 NFL Draft and the Green Bay Packers could certainly use a running-mate for star cornerback Jaire Alexander. Surtain is a big and long cornerback prospect who knows how to use his length well. He is a strong athlete who shows impressive instincts in coverage and fantastic overall ball skills.
An outside cornerback duo of Alexander and Surtain has a ton of short and long-term upside and could help take the Packers’ defense to the next level. There are certainly other positions of need on this roster, but this feels like a strong fit and value for Green Bay.
2021 NFL Draft Round 1, Pick 18
Nobody loves attacking the offensive and defensive lines quite like Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. There are certainly more pressing needs on the Eagles’ roster, but in this specific 2021 NFL Draft scenario, I have a hard time believing that interior defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman would not be on Roseman’s radar.
Twyman is a quick and explosive interior rusher who gets off of the ball in and through the line of scrimmage in an instant. He is an impressive quick-twitch athlete who shines as a one-gap penetrator against the run and in pass-rush situations.
Twyman is not the biggest defensive tackle, but he consistently plays with great leverage which leads to more power in his game than you would expect. Simply put, Twyman is a potentially dynamic defensive playmaker who has massive upside at the next level. He feels like a perfect fit for the attacking Eagles’ defense and is a great value pick in this range.
