Round 1, Pick 31

Actual 2020 NFL Draft selection: Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State (after a trade up to No. 25)
Re-Draft selection: Ross Blacklock, IDL, TCU

The San Francisco 49ers sent the 31st, 117th and 176th overall picks in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Minnesota Vikings in order to trade up to No. 25 for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. There is a lot to like about Aiyuk in the 49ers’ offense, but after taking Jeudy earlier in this re-draft, taking another wide receiver would not make any sense. Instead, San Francisco fills their need on the interior defensive line by bringing in Ross Blacklock.

Cornerback was also under consideration here, but Blacklock stood out as the best player available at a position of need for the San Francisco 49ers. Blacklock is a quick and aggressive defender who has an impressive combination of quickness and power on the inside. He is a stout and dependable run defender who also shows plenty of upside as an interior pass rusher.

Blacklock obviously is not as good as Kinlaw, but he is still a gifted player who should become an impressive playmaker on the interior. When it comes to the 49ers’ two first-round selections, I simply like the duo of Jeudy and Blacklock better than Kinlaw and Aiyuk.

Jeudy and Kinlaw are similarly valued players, but Blacklock has much more of a chance to make an immediate impact for the San Francisco 49ers. Add in the value of not trading up to No. 25 and this re-draft scenario is clearly better for the 49ers.
