Round 6, Pick 186

Actual 2020 NFL Draft selection: Alohi Gilman, S, Notre Dame
Re-Draft selection: Prince Tega Wanogho, OT, Auburn

I feel similarly about the Chargers’ sixth-round pick as I did their fifth. The selection of Alohi Gilman at No. 186 is solid, but there is some room for improvement, especially after they already took a safety in this re-draft. The Chargers invested in offensive tackle earlier, but swinging for the fences on another one here does make some sense.

Prince Tega Wanogho is an extremely talented offensive tackle prospect who shows an impressive combination of power and athleticism. He is a bit of a raw player, but his upside in pass protection and as a run blocker is impressive. Injuries are a major concern with this prospect, but Wanogho undoubtedly has the talent to grow into a strong starter at a major position of need for this team. Taking him in the sixth round would have been a worthy risk.

Round 7, Pick 220

Actual 2020 NFL Draft selection: K.J. Hill, WR, Ohio State
Re-Draft selection: Same

Taking wide receiver K.J. Hill in the seventh round was my single favorite pick made by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2020 NFL Draft. Hill is a talented and dependable slot receiver who has a chance to come in and make an immediate impact for this team. He is not the most physically gifted receiver, but Hill has a knack for finding space in the defense and has reliable hands in the middle of the field.

Hill is never going to be an elite target in the passing game, but he is a reliable and consistent chain-mover who undoubtedly has value. It is hard to find dependable talent in the seventh round, but the Chargers were able to do so in the 2020 NFL Draft with the selection of Hill.
