2021 NFL Draft: Trey Lance lands in top five of way-too-early mock draft
Pittsburgh Steelers’ projected win total: 7.7
The Pittsburgh Steelers are another team that could certainly consider a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Ben Roethlisberger is not going to be around forever and this team needs to think about life after him. However, offensive tackle stands out a more immediate need for Pittsburgh.
Starting left tackle Alejandro Villanueva and starting right tackle Matt Feiler will both hit free agency next offseason. With that being the case, the Steelers would be wise to make their offensive line a priority in the 2021 NFL Draft. In this mock draft, Alex Leatherwood out of Alabama is the guy.
Leatherwood has played both guard and tackle in college and shined at both positions. He is an extremely athletic offensive lineman who moves well as both a run blocker and pass protector. Leatherwood is extremely quick off of the ball and shows incredible natural mirror ability in pass protection.
His athleticism consistently stands out on tape, but do not sleep on Leatherwood’s power. He fires off of the ball quickly and uses his powerful hands to reset the line of scrimmage. Leatherwood has fantastic grip strength and does a great job of keeping his feet moving throughout the block.
Whether Leatherwood would play inside or outside for the Steelers, he would be a tremendous addition to their already strong offensive line mix.
