2. New York Giants

Daniel Jones played better than most of us expected early in the 2019 season, but turnovers were still a massive issue for him as a rookie and I am not convinced that he is a true franchise quarterback that the Giants will want to build around for the long-term. The Giants have some nice offensive weapons so I could easily see Jones play well enough to lead the Giants to six or seven wins, but if the turnovers continue, this could get ugly.

Adding rookie offensive tackle Andrew Thomas to the mix should help the Giants’ ability to move the ball right away, but this roster still leaves plenty to be desired and I would not be surprised to see them win the fewest games in the league in 2020. Make no mistake about it, the New York Giants are among the favorites to hold the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars

The four teams that have already been mentioned certainly have a chance to lose a lot of games, but I would be putting my money on the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the worst team in the NFL this season. Gardner Minshew was a nice story last season, but it is not like he is surrounded with the proper talent on the offensive side of the ball. Is Minshew really the guy to lead a mediocre supporting cast to a successful season? Don’t count on it.

I actually like what the Jaguars are doing here. Minshew showed enough last season that he is worth giving a full season to prove himself. There is certainly a scenario where he comes out, plays well and cements himself as the franchise quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars. If the Jags can turn the former sixth-round pick into their starting quarterback, then they can begin to build around him and look to compete.

That being said, sixth-round selections do not become legitimate franchise quarterbacks often for a reason. The odds are certainly stacked against Minshew and the Jaguars. That being said, they have set themselves up well for the backup scenario.

If Minshew struggles and the Jaguars bottom out, this team could easily find themselves in the race for the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. If that happens, they simply take Trevor Lawrence and they have a true franchise quarterback to build their entire team around. Whether it is Minshew or a fresh face, the Jaguars will likely themselves in a position to leave the 2021 NFL Draft with a legitimate franchise quarterback pretty much no matter what.
