NFL Draft 2020: Best pick made by each AFC South team
Houston Texans: Jonathan Greenard, EDGE, Florida
Round 3, 90th Overall
The Houston Texans consistently struggled to put pressure on the quarterback last season and they attacked their need for an improved pass rush in the 2020 NFL Draft. It began with the selection of Ross Blacklock in the second round. Blacklock is a talented interior rusher who will be able to come in and make an immediate impact on this team.
Blacklock was close to the best 2020 NFL Draft pick by the Texans, but in the end, their third-round selection of edge rusher Jonathan Greenard gets the slight edge.
Greenard shows an explosive first step and is extremely quick around the edge. He bends around the edge with ease and closes on the quarterback quickly. Greenard has a variety of pass rush moves and can even win with a bit of power. He is strong at the point of attack and shows good overall hand usage as both a pass rusher and run defender.
Simply put, Greenard is a talented edge defender who should come in and make an immediate impact as a pass rusher for this team. Greenard fills an obvious position of need for the Houston Texans and was also a strong value pick in the third round. Strong overall selection by this team.
