How ’bout them Cowboys!? The Dallas Cowboys absolutely crushed the 2020 NFL Draft and now sit as clear favorites in the NFC East going forward.

Maybe Jerry Jones should draft from his $250 million yacht every year. Jones and the Dallas Cowboys were able to find incredible value throughout the 2020 NFL Draft while also filling important positions of need on the roster.

The Cowboys began the 2020 NFL Draft with the selection of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb at pick No. 17. Many considered Lamb to be the top receiver a loaded draft at the position, but he slipped down the board a bit further than expected. The Cowboys were fully expected to fill a defensive need in the first round, but they did a great job of simply sitting back and taking the best player available at No. 17.

Sticking Lamb in the slot with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup on the outside gives the Dallas Cowboys an incredible wide receiver trio to build their offense around going forward. Add in their strong offensive line, Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield and of course, Dak Prescott leading the charge, and it is easy to see how the Cowboys could quickly become one of the best offenses in the entire NFL.

The Cowboys’ most immediate needs on the roster primarily come on the defensive side of the ball. While Lamb was simply too valuable of a selection to ignore, adding a first-round receiver could have left them short on defensive talent. However, Dallas did a great job of finding impact defensive talent through the rest of the 2020 NFL Draft.

In the second round, the Cowboys took former Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs. Diggs is a big and athletic cornerback prospect who is physical in coverage and shows strong ball skills. Adding Diggs to the mix helps soften the blow of losing Byron Jones in free agency. He could quickly become an important part of this defense.

The selection of interior defensive lineman Neville Gallimore also stood out as a strong value selection at a position of need. Gallimore has a nice combination of quickness off of the ball and power at the point of attack. He has an explosive first step and has plenty of upside as both a one-gap penetrator and a two-gap defender.

In the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Cowboys double-dipped at the cornerback position, adding Reggie Robinson II to the mix. Robinson shows an impressive combination of size and athleticism on the outside. He undoubtedly has intriguing long-term upside.

With the last pick of the fifth round, the Dallas Cowboys took edge defender Bradlee Anae, who was arguably the biggest steal of the entire 2020 NFL Draft. Anae tested poorly at the Combine, but he is a strong and stable presence at the defensive end position who will make an impact against the run and as a pass rusher. The NFL overthought Anae and the Cowboys were the team to benefit.

I was not as big of a fan of the selection of interior offensive lineman Tyler Biadasz in the fourth round as many others. Biadasz had hip surgery last Spring and his play dipped significantly in 2019. Biadasz looked far less mobile last season and lacked functional strength as well.

The hip obviously seems to be a major issue for Biadasz and I question whether he is going to make much of an impact at the next level. It’s hard to rip on a fourth-round pick too hard, but I just don’t think Biadasz was as much of a home run selection as others are saying.

While I am not the biggest Biadasz fan and the seventh-round flyer on quarterback Ben DiNucci is whatever, there is no doubt that the Dallas Cowboys absolutely crushed the 2020 NFL Draft. This draft class brings both immediate value to the franchise and a ton of long-term upside.

Make no mistake about it, the Dallas Cowboys are a team on the rise and are the clear favorites in the NFC East going forward.
