26. player. 49. Pick Analysis. Quarterback. Jordan Love. Scouting Report. Utah State

The Green Bay Packers are now proud owners of the most surprising pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft after trading up four spots to take Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick. Most believed the Packers would be targeting another weapon for Aaron Rodgers with their first selection, but instead, they draft his eventual replacement.

The pick immediately drew comparisons to the 2005 Draft, where Rodgers was famously taken late in the first round to be the heir apparent to Brett Favre, but after the success of their 2019 season, it seems strange to put so much emphasis on drafting for the future when the window for another Super Bowl is still open.

Jordan Love was one of the most polarizing prospects in this class, as you could go to one mock draft and find him as high as a top-10 pick and then go to another and see him as a third-rounder. That fluctuation of evaluations comes from Love being more of a projection than he is a finished product.

He has prototypical size, mobility and easily has the most arm talent in the class, but his flaws are significant. His accuracy is maddeningly inconsistent and at times he looks like he’s just chucking and praying.

While I understand the value of landing a guy like Love late in the first, there was a ton of talent still on the board that could have helped the Packers make another playoff run in 2020.
