2020 NFL Draft: Putting a letter grade on all 32 first-round picks
The Minnesota Vikings did a great job of letting the draft come to them on Thursday night. Their selection of Justin Jefferson at No. 22 was tremendous value at a major position of need and we saw something similar at No. 31.
Knowing that there were plenty of talented cornerbacks available, the Vikings traded down from No. 25 and took Jeff Gladney at 31. Gladney is a long and physical cornerback prospect who shines in press-man coverage. He also reads the quarterback well and shows impressive natural ball skills. The Vikings fill a major need with a talented player here. Extremely impressive first-round performance for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2020 NFL Draft.
2020 NFL Draft Grade: A-
Give the Kansas City Chiefs some credit for being bold here. Instead of addressing one of their positions of need, the Chiefs find another offensive playmaker. Most would expect D’Andre Swift if the Chiefs took a running back here, maybe J.K. Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor. However, Clyde Edwards-Helaire undoubtedly makes a ton of sense.
Edwards-Helaire is an extremely patient runner who has fantastic ball-carrier vision. He also shows impressive short-area quickness and is a tough runner who has tremendous contact balance. Edwards-Helaire is a perfect fit for the Chiefs’ zone-based rushing attack. However, his ability as a receiver out of the backfield is what makes this so exciting.
Edwards-Helaire is the best receiving back in the 2020 NFL Draft class and he is going to immediately be a dynamic weapon for Patrick Mahomes in the passing game. Make no mistake about it, Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a perfect fit for this offense and is going to make an already elite offensive attack even more dynamic.
