2020 NFL Draft: Putting a letter grade on all 32 first-round picks
This feels like decent, but not great value for Brandon Aiyuk. That being said, I love this pairing between player and team so much that I don’t care that they had to trade up a bit to make it happen. Kyle Shanahan knows how to scheme receivers open and get them in space to make plays after the catch. Aiyuk is arguably the best run after catch receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class and he is undoubtedly going to be a massive playmaker in this offense.
Aiyuk can also stretch the field a bit and has a wide catch radius. However, it is his playmaking ability with the ball in his hands that makes this such an exciting fit. For the second year in a row (Deebo Samuel last year), the 49ers find the perfect wide receiver to add to their offensive attack in the draft.
2020 NFL Draft Grade: A-
Well, no way Aaron Rodgers is happy about this pick. The Green Bay Packers reached the NFC Championship Game last season but were absolutely manhandled by the 49ers. This is a talented team, but they still have holes on both sides of the ball that must be addressed. There were plenty of wide receivers, linebackers and defensive linemen available who could have help them. Instead, the Packers trade up for quarterback Jordan Love.
Love is an exciting playmaker who could grow into the next Aaron Rodgers. He is also an erratic passer who consistently made poor decisions last season. He is a massive work in progress who is likely going to be walking into a toxic situation as Rodgers’ understudy. The Packers should be working to build their roster around Rodgers now, not looking for his replacement three years from now.
