2020 NFL Draft: Putting a letter grade on all 32 first-round picks
I feel similarly about this pick as I did about the Falcons taking Terrell. I just do not like taking a cornerback in this range because there are so many of them who are about the same to me. Damon Arnette has nice size and is fast. He also showed inside/outside versatility in college. That being said, he was rarely put in tough situations in a loaded Ohio State defense and was never overly impressive in man-to-man coverage.
Arnette is a solid player, but this is just poor value. There are so many better football players still on the board, but the Las Vegas Raiders decided to reach for need. If they felt like they had to take cornerback, I would rather they aggressively tried to trade down.
2020 NFL Draft Grade: D+
You can never have too many pass rushers. Last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars took Josh Allen in the first round of the draft. Allen had a great rookie season, but that did not stop them from snagging K’Lavon Chaisson here at No. 20.
Chaisson is a dynamic pass rusher who is quick off of the ball and bends around the edge with ease. He shows tremendous natural upfield burst and is more stout at the point of attack than you would expect. Chaisson showed the ability to consistently set the edge in college, but can he do the same at the next level with his slight frame? There are also some durability concerns here.
Not a position of need, but I give the Jags credit for sticking to their board and picking the best player available. The Jaguars got much better on Thursday night, adding both Henderson and Chaisson to their defensive mix.
