2020 NFL Draft: Best available targets for Chicago Bears on Day 2
Wide Receiver
Outside of Allen Robinson, it was like everyone else on the offense was allergic to consistent production. Rookie tailback David Montgomery wasn’t the hit most thought he would be under Matt Nagy last year. Tarik Cohen and Anthony Miller didn’t produce to the levels most expected to come in 2019, and Taylor Gabriel is no longer with the team.
While most of the production or lack thereof can be blamed on the inabilities at quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the Bears lack true playmakers outside of Robinson.
As mentioned before, wide receiver is probably the deepest position class in this year’s draft, and there will be no shortage of talent for Chicago to pick from with one of their two second-round picks on Friday.
Four receivers went in round one on Thursday, and there could be as many as eight or ten selected in just the second round. That’s how deep this class is. While some may feel that the top-tier receivers are all taken, one could argue there’s still top-level talent available for when the Bears will be on the clock with their first selection.
Denzel Mims of Baylor is still available and would fit nicely in Chicago’s offense. Laviska Shenault of Colorado State and KJ Hamler of Penn State will both likely be available at 43 and 50, and both will likely be strongly considered when the Bears are on the clock.
If the Bears choose to move back with one of their picks to acquire draft capital for later in the draft, they could opt for a player like Antonio Gandy-Golden of Liberty. While he’s garnered some serious pre-draft buzz as of late, it’s unlikely he’ll skyrocket up draft boards and out of the Bears reach.
