Defensive Line

The defensive line got a major overhaul in free agency, as Chris Grier brought in two edge rushers to help the front seven. Shaq Lawson and Emmanuel Ogbah will be a big boost next to Christian Wilkins, but it wouldn’t hurt to add more help.

1. John Penisini, Utah

When the Utah defenders got asked who the best player on the defense was, most everyone said Leki Fotu. When Fotu was asked, he mentioned John Penisini as one of the most important players on the unit.

Penisini would be a nice player next to Wilkins on the defensive line and both would play off each other’s strengths. Penisini will eat up space and handle double teams in the run game and allow Wilkins to get after the quarterback more on an island.

2. Khalil Davis, Nebraska

Adding players with good athleticism and toughness is always a good idea on day three of the draft. Nebraska’s Khalil Davis is a bit of a project at the next level, but there are traits to take a flier in the later rounds. Davis has quick change of direction skills for a defensive tackle and a motor that doesn’t stop. He needs to work on his pad level and hand usage a bit more, but that can come with time working well Flores and the staff.
