Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Defensive Tackle. Auburn. Derrick Brown. 1. player. 16

They say, “If you’re gonna dream, dream big.” And I’m talking literally BIG in this case with Derrick Brown. It may seem like a bit of a pipe dream for the Buffalo Bills, but you never know what might happen in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Brown is a top-three player on many big boards. He had a ton of buzz at the very top of the first round when the draft process began, but has been coming down a bit as of late. A disappointing showing at the combine raised some concerns about Brown being a sure-fire top pick.

There have been rumblings that a lot of NFL teams and evaluators prefer South Carolina’s Javon Kinlaw to Derrick Brown. If that is the case, Brown could see a bit of a fall on draft day.

If there are runs on the top four offensive tackles, the top three or four wide receivers and the top three or four quarterbacks early in the first round, things could get interesting. Add in Jeffrey Okudah, C.J. Henderson, Isaiah Simmons and Javon Kinlaw possibly being taken ahead of Brown, and he could wind up within striking range, even for the Buffalo Bills.

I highly doubt that the Bills would want to give up what it would take to get high enough to grab Derrick Brown, but is he falls into the second half of the first round, I wouldn’t rule it out. They have picks in every round of the remainder of the draft, as well as picks in rounds one through three and two fifth rounders in 2021.

If they are able to move up and snag Brown, he would be an absolutely perfect fit with the Buffalo Bills. As a nose tackle in Sean McDermott’s 4-3 defense alongside 2019 first-round pick Ed Oliver, Brown would be an absolute force.

Brown is an incredibly powerful player with the ability to take on double teams, shoot gaps, drive blockers back and making sound tackles on the defensive line. Paired with the explosive Oliver, the Bills would have likely the top, young tackle pairing in the NFL for years to come.
