Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Auburn. Derrick Brown. DT. 3. player. 50

The Detroit Lions would obviously like to trade down here, and who wouldn’t?

The Miami Dolphins or some other team could very well come up to the third overall pick and send Detroit an offer they can’t refuse, but let’s think about whether or not it really makes any sense from the Dolphins’ perspective.

To save you the time, it really doesn’t.

The Dolphins may have some justifiable fears that the quarterback they covet the most will not be there with the fifth overall pick, but is it worth a high second-round pick to move up when you’re only risking one team in front of you not making the pick?

The Dolphins seem to have some level of liking of Justin Herbert, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jordan Love, so there’s no need for them to trade up to the third overall pick and deplete their draft capital yet.

Again, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. It could.

If the Lions stay put here, they could very well take Ohio State’s Jeffrey Okudah after trading Darius Slay to the Eagles.

But my gut seems to be leaning toward Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown.

The Lions don’t really have an interior defensive line right now, and that’s a problem.

Brown is not only one of the best players in this draft class, he’s also one of the cleanest and most universally liked by coaches and executives.

Detroit can circle back to cornerback with their second-round pick, but they’re not getting anything close to Brown in round two on the defensive line.
