Los Angeles Chargers pass on QB early in 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft
In Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, the Los Angeles Chargers have arguably the best starting duo of edge rushers in the entire NFL. That being said, both players are set to become free agents after the 2020 season. While I am sure that the Chargers will try to bring them both back, do not be surprised if they end up losing one of Ingram or Bosa. With this in mind, they should consider taking a shot on some upside at the edge rusher position in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Derrek Tuszka absolutely dominated his level of competition in college, piling up 40.5 tackles for loss and 28.5 sacks throughout his three years of major playing time at North Dakota State. Tuszka is quick off of the ball and can bend around the edge. Tuszka is a tenacious defender who never gives up on the play, but his shorter arms could really hurt him at the next level.
He is certainly a project player, but Tuszka has some intriguing upside as an NFL edge rusher. He would not be a bad guy to bring in as a late-round flyer in case the Chargers lose Bosa or Ingram.
Tanner Muse was listed as a safety in college, but he played a lot in the box and made plays all over the field for the Clemson Tigers. Muse measured in at 6-foot-2, 227 pounds at the combine and honestly, I’d like to see him add a few more pounds and primarily play linebacker at the next level.
Muse is a tough and instinctual player who always seems to find his way to the ball. He has obvious coverage upside and closes on the ball carrier quickly against the run. At worst, Muse should be a fantastic special teams asset at the next level, but I also think he has some defensive upside. The Chargers need some quality depth at the linebacker position and I like the idea of them taking Muse, making him a full-time linebacker and helping him grow into the position.
Tyrie Cleveland is a tall and long receiver who has game-breaking speed on the outside. He is a fantastic natural deep threat who tracks the ball in the air extremely well. Cleveland could grow into an exciting deep threat at the next level, but he also brings value on special teams, showing plenty of upside as a returner and on the kick coverage team.
