Dallas Cowboys 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Adding defensive help
By Tyler Kirk
Here, the Dallas Cowboys take a chance on Iowa safety Geno Stone, who is one of my favorite players in the draft. Stone was all over the field for the Hawkeyes. He isn’t built like a safety, more like a linebacker, but Geno he can play.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not expecting Stone to start over guys like Xavier Woods and Clinton-Dix but I will say that he can help this defense. Much like the other fourth and fifth-round picks, he will primarily contribute on special teams early on.
Stone plays with his eyes and trusts what he sees. He is a very instinctive player. I noticed he plays a lot of his game down in the box and makes a ton of tackles. The issue he is going to have in the NFL is trying to match elite speed running backs and tight ends that he may have to carry across the field in coverage.
Even though he lacks elite speed and size, I do think he can give the Cowboys much needed-depth at the safety spot, while also helping on special teams. I love this pick for the Cowboys as they draft one of my favorite players in this 2020 NFL Draft class.
Round 7
This selection by the Cowboys is my favorite selection in this mock draft. I love this pick. The seventh round is a great time to make sure you get the players with traits that you want before they hit free agency and can sign with any team. That is exactly what the Dallas Cowboys did with this selection.
Victor tends to struggle with press coverage and physical cornerbacks as he lacks ideal strength, but getting in the Cowboys’ strength and conditioning program will help him tremendously.
Victor is a young kid who is more developed with his game than other receivers drafted ahead of him. He does need to build up that functional strength, but Victor can really separate from defenders with in-breaking routes and does an excellent job selling defensive backs on double moves.
Victor shows flashes of being spectacular. He makes big plays down the field but will lack the contested catch over the middle. I can see him being a boom or bust pick for the Dallas Cowboys.
