Cleveland Browns: Possible trade targets in the 2020 NFL Draft
If they miss out on a top offensive tackle or opt to go in a different direction at 10, the Cleveland Browns could absolutely pursue Houston tackle Josh Jones later in the round. Whether it is with a trade down from 10 or a trade-up back into the first, Jones should be a viable option for Cleveland in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Playing left tackle at Houston, Jones would fill the biggest hole in the Browns roster right now. Jones is a dominant force in the run game with good hands and solid drive to move defenders back and open holes for his runners.
There are a couple of aspects of Jones’ game that are very underrated. While some see Jones as a straight-forward mauler as a run blocker, he is much more versatile. He is a very effective mover as a run blocker, excelling as a puller and able to get out in space on screens. A quality that would be very valuable in Kevin Stefanski’s zone run offense.
Jones is also a very solid pass blocker. He has solid footwork, great hands and is very adept at using the defender’s momentum against him, often finishing even his pass blocks to the ground. While many think Jones doesn’t bring much to the table in pass protection, but according to Pro Football Focus, Jones allowed just two pressures in 325 pass-block snaps, as seen in the tweet below.
Cleveland has been rumored to Boise State tackle Ezra Cleveland in a situation like this in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. As a Browns fan, I really hope this is not the case. Cleveland is a fine prospect who I might be okay with in the second or third round, but Jones is far superior. If they don’t get one of the top four tackle prospects, Jones is by far the next best option and should be the priority for the Cleveland Browns.
