Pick Analysis. Linebacker. Scouting Report. Wyoming. Logan Wilson. 5. player. 53

After letting Joe Schobert go to Jacksonville in free agency, the Cleveland Browns have a pretty clear need at linebacker that might need to be addressed in the 2020 NFL Draft. To me, Logan Wilson seems like the perfect candidate.

Wilson had an insanely productive college career at Wyoming, totaling 409 tackles, 34.5 for loss, seven sacks, 10 interceptions, three defensive touchdowns, 14 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles in his four-year playing career as a Cowboy.

Wilson has outstanding instincts in both the run and the pass game. He can shoot gaps or take on blocks on his way into the backfield or jump routes and lay the wood on receivers in zone coverage. He can cover tight ends man-to-man and is a takeaway waiting to happen.

A three-year captain at Wyoming, Wilson has the leadership and football IQ to come in and immediately be the quarterback of the Browns defense. A role vacated by the Schobert departure. Wilson has all the intangibles that teams look for, and although he isn’t the most elite athlete, he is an ultra-productive player on the football field.

As a late riser in this 2020 NFL Draft process, it’s a bit unclear where Wilson will end up coming off the board. For the longest time, Wilson could be had in the late rounds of most seven-round mocks, but he has been gaining steam in recent weeks and could go as early as the second round.

Based on the intel that they are hearing, the Cleveland Browns could move around a bit in the draft to find the sweet spot that ensures they get Wilson without overspending. Assuming he is set to go in the late second round range, Cleveland could use pick 41 elsewhere, then use one of their two third-round picks and maybe a 2021 third or fourth to move up into the back end of the second to draft Wilson as their Joe Schobert replacement at middle linebacker.
