Despite Bobby Massie being under contract for the next three seasons, the Chicago Bears need to start planning for the future at the position. Right now, the front office should be looking at a low risk, “draft and stash” type of that they may develop into a capable starter later on down the road.

South Carolina State offensive tackle Alex Taylor is the definition of a “draft and stash” player if ever there was one. Standing at a massive 6-foot-9, 308 pounds with ridiculously long 36-inch arms, is a raw athlete who needs time to better understand the position. Showing his potential in his movement skills and a surprising level of strength, Taylor is a good value pick here in the seventh round.

Speaking of value picks, the Chicago Bears continue that with the selection of Bosie State receiver John Hightower here in the seventh. With the departure of Gabriel and Cordarelle Patterson entering the final year of his contract, the Chicago Bears could use another face in their receiver room.

The thing that should be noted about Hightower is that like Taylor, he’ll initially be another draft and stash type of player. Despite displaying great play speed and some promising elusiveness as a route runner, Hightower also displays some ugly lapses when tracking and catching the football. While the market will be wide open for Hightower, as Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network believes that he could go a little bit higher than this spot.
