Jacksonville Jaguars: 2020 NFL Draft trade-up targets
By Evan Bachman
Tristan Wirfs is an intriguing prospect with a lot of potential. He’s 6-foot-5, 322 pounds and moves pretty well for a man for that big. The best part of his game, however, is his ridiculous strength. He simply manhandles defenders at times on film. He’s always firing off the snap in the run game and he could become an absolute mauler in that area. He also has the athleticism to be very good in pass protection.
He put on an absolute show at the combine posting a 4.85 40 yard dash, a modern offensive linemen record 36.5-inch vertical leap, and a tied for modern offensive linemen record 10-foot-1 inch broad jump, according to NFL.com. This performance proved just how freakish of an athlete he is and gave him a case to be the first tackle taken in April.
The Jaguars took right tackle Jawaan Taylor in the second round last year and he had a solid rookie year grading as the 50th best tackle out of 81, according to Pro Football Focus. However, Cam Robinson was underwhelming from the left side grading as the 70th best tackle out of 81. Robinson’s a former second-round pick, so he does have talent, but I think that it’s time to consider moving on from him.
If the Jaguars like Wirfs enough they could probably select him at number nine overall, but the idea here would be to address another need at nine and then trade up from 20 to select one of Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas, or Mekhi Becton.
