Cornerback

If there were any true holes for the San Francisco 49ers, it would be in the secondary. The secondary was helped largely by the dominance of the defensive line that featured Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, and Arik Armstead.

That doesn’t mean that the secondary didn’t play well. Richard Sherman continued to play close to his level he reached with the Seattle Seahawks, with a high football IQ and great route recognition skills. Emmanuel Mosley jumped a bit out of nowhere to put together a productive season.

However, let’s face the facts. Sherman is now 32-years-old, and he will hit the downslope eventually. Was Mosley’s season a flash in the pan? We didn’t even mention Ahkello Witherspoon, who has yet to live up to expectations on defense. So yeah, corner is a big need here.

The Niners won’t be in a position to select Jeffrey Okudah, barring something unforeseen. However, Florida corner C.J. Henderson could be in play at No. 13 overall. While his tackling is clearly an issue, his cover skills are up there with the best in the 2020 NFL Draft. At 31, someone like Jeff Gladney, who has elite quickness and is feisty at the catch point, would make sense. Auburn’s Noah Igbinoghene could be in play as well.
