2020 NFL Draft: First-Round “What I would do” 2020 NFL mock draft
It is difficult to determine whether Zack Baun should play off-ball linebacker or edge rusher at the next level, so why not give him to a team who will let him do a bit of everything? Baun is an extremely smart, tough and quick player who tends to always find his way to the ball.
He is quick off of the snap and can close on the quarterback quickly from the edge. He also shows impressive block shed ability and drops into coverage extremely well. Baun is not the most exciting 2020 NFL Draft prospect, but he does everything well. He would thrive under the direction of a smart coaching staff in Seattle.
The Baltimore Ravens have an extremely well-rounded roster with depth and impact players on both sides of the ball. The off-ball linebacker position stands out as their most obvious need and a tremendously talented linebacker remains on the board here.
Kenneth Murray is an extremely active and athletic linebacker who consistently files around and makes plays all over the field. He is a stout run defender who can defend on the inside and range from sideline-to-sideline. Murray also shows some serious ability when asked to attack the quarterback on the blitz.
In coverage, Murray is a bit underdeveloped, but his fantastic overall athleticism gives him plenty of upside in that area. Here, the Ravens find an extremely talented, high-motor and dependable player to lead their defense from the middle.
After trading away Jurrell Casey, the Tennessee Titans could look to address their interior defensive line in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. With a great combination of power and athleticism, Neville Gallimore stands out as a strong selection for this team. Gallimore is quick off of the ball, shines as a one-gap penetrator and has some two-gap ability. Pairing him with Jeffery Simmons in the middle of the defensive line would certainly be intriguing.
Offensive tackle does not stand out as the Green Bay Packers’ most immediate need, but they could certainly be in a position to land a long-term solution to the problem it the right player is available. Here at No. 30, Josh Jones stands out as the right player.
Jones is an athletic and powerful offensive tackle prospect who shows a ton of upside in pass protection. He certainly needs some development in order to reach his full upside at the next level, but the Packers have the time to let him develop. This feels like a strong pairing that would work out well for both sides.
The 49ers do not have a lot of picks in the middle of the 2020 NFL Draft, so I would not be surprised to see them trade down with one of their first-round picks. Here, they trade down to the middle of the second round but pick up a valuable third-round pick for the troubles. With three third-round selections, the Denver Broncos have the available draft capital to come up and make a move like this for the right player.
Kristian Fulton is a great target for the Broncos in this range, showing quick feet, strong man-to-man coverage ability and great natural ball skills. Fulton is an extremely high-upside cornerback prospect who could quickly grow into an impact player for the Broncos. He is worth this kind of investment.
Sure, the defense needs some help, but nothing is more important for the Kansas City Chiefs than keeping Patrick Mahomes healthy. The interior offensive line currently leaves plenty to be desired and Cesar Ruiz is the best of the bunch. Plus, with all of the top cornerbacks and linebackers off of the board, this pick has become pretty easy.
Ruiz shows an impressive combination of power and quickness on the inside. He is a smart interior offensive line prospect who can handle either offensive guard position or center. Ruiz is a strong run blocker who can handle himself on the first level and has the mobility to consistently make blocks on the second level. Most importantly, Ruiz is a tremendous pass blocker who could help keep the pocket clean for the best quarterback in the NFL.
