Pick Analysis. LB. Florida. Jon Greenard. 58. player. Scouting Report. 35

Tennessee Titans 2019 Starters: Cameron Wake, Harold Landry

A twitchy and natural pass-rusher, Greenard is not going to match the likes of Chase Young, Yetur Gross-Matos or A.J. Epenesa, but he can provide a unique defensive spark to a pass-rush. At Florida, Greenard showed respectable quickness and burst for a 265 lb edge player, and did well to understand leverage and work his way into the backfield against offensive tackles in both the running and passing game.

One of Greenard’s biggest strengths is his gritty, high motor style of play that gets him into the middle of the play on numerous occasions. Not only does Greenard tackle effectively once he is in on the quarterback, but his ability to set the edge against the run and take down backs in space is perfect for an NFL defense.

Along with his tackling, Greenard excels in one of the most underrated parts of a pass-rushers game, the bat-down. Any highlight tape of Greenard will show an instinctual tendency to get his hands in the air when the quarterback releases the ball, killing plays and providing a great pass-defense presence from the line of scrimmage.

One of the qualities NFL scouting departments look for in first-round talents are the ability to contribute from day one. Especially at the back of the draft from competitive franchises, these first-round picks need to be able to fill a role from day one and continue to develop through their playing time. Greenard is one of the prospects of the 2020 NFL draft who is NFL-ready and can make a difference as a 3-4 edge defender.
