Tier 1

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (2020 age: 41)

Drew Brees played in just 11 games this season and still threw 27 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions. He also has the Saints playing for a title and competing with one of the best records in the NFC this season.

Although he is a free agent and I’m sure teams on the cusp of winning would love to add him for a year, it only makes sense for him to keep things going with the Saints at this point.

Team fit: New Orleans Saints

Tom Brady, New England Patriots (2020 age: 43)

Say what you will about Brady’s 2019 season (it’s been tough), this guy is still one of the best in the game and capable of leading a team to a championship.

Not that Brady needs excuses at this point in his career, but the supporting cast, especially at receiver in New England, has been particularly horrendous this season.

I would be fascinated to see Brady playing on another team and while I don’t think it’s overly likely, I could see Brady jumping to another team especially if Josh McDaniels gets a head coaching gig elsewhere.

Team fits: New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (2020 age: 32)

The former first-round pick and oft-injured Tannehill is finally playing the best football of his career at the age of 31.

The Titans traded for him to be Marcus Mariota’s backup this year, and Tannehill was inserted into the starting lineup and led the Titans to a playoff berth and nine wins.

He’s thrown at least two touchdowns in all but one of his starts this season and has the Titans rolling. In terms of his age and productivity this year, he’s probably the most attractive option on the free agent market for teams, but he’s going nowhere. If the Titans can’t sign him to a long-term deal, expect the franchise tag here.
