Levonta Taylor. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Cornerback. Florida State. 123. 208

A five-star recruit coming out of high school and considered by some to be the best cornerback prospect in 2015, Levonta Taylor is the type of player who would thrive in a man coverage assignment.

So why the seventh round treatment? Well for starters his size doesn’t help his case. At 5-foot-10, Taylor is not exactly intimidating. With only four interceptions in four seasons, he doesn’t stand out on the stats sheet either.

Taylor is what I like to call an “event horizon cornerback”. Quarterbacks just don’t throw it his way. His assignments rarely make it open, so the ball is never thrown his way.

It is a mystery why quarterbacks don’t try him more or why his name is being mentioned as a seventh-round draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. My guess is his size makes teams apprehensive to bring on too early. He also had a back injury in 2018, but clearly not bad enough to not play.

All I have to say is if Jerry Jones doesn’t bring in this cornerback to at least see what he’s got against NFL receivers, I will be sorely disappointed. There has to be a reason why quarterbacks don’t trust themselves to throw it his way.

His film does show sticky coverage. But sticky coverage can’t be everything. This kid is an anomaly. I don’t care if he is 5-foot-10. If he can keep that type of coverage against NFL receivers, then Taylor is a steal to whatever team is brave enough to draft him.
