Boise State EDGE Curtis Weaver declares for 2020 NFL Draft
Curtis Weaver has officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.
On Saturday, Boise State edge rusher Curtis Weaver announced that he will enter the 2020 NFL Draft. Weaver announced his decision on Twitter, where he also thanked his Boise State coaches and teammates.
Weaver has been one of the most dominant defenders in the country this season, piling up 13.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss through his 14 games. Weaver finished his three-year Boise State career with 128 total tackles, 47.5 tackles for loss, 34 sacks, six passes defended, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. He is one of the most productive players in the history of Boise State football and undoubtedly has a bright future at the next level.
Weaver is a bigger player on the edge (listed at 6-foot-3, 265 pounds) and he shows plenty of power at the point of attack. However, do not sleep on this guy’s ability to move. Weaver is extremely quick off of the ball and uses long strides to consistently get tremendous upfield burst.
He converts his power to speed extremely well and closes on the quarterback quickly. Weaver also has good length, fast hands and develops his pass rush plan extremely well. Simply put, this guy can get after the quarterback and will undoubtedly be in the first-round conversation when the 2020 NFL Draft comes around.
We all know that Chase Young is the top edge defender in the 2020 NFL Draft, but Weaver could legitimately compete for that second spot. A.J. Epenesa is considered by most to be the second-best edge prospect in the 2020 NFL draft class, but Weaver, Yetur Gross-Matos, K’Lavon Chaisson, Terrell Lewis and Julian Okwara are also undoubtedly in the mix. Assuming all of these players declare, any of them could end up going in the first round next April.
Whether he ends up going in the first round or not, Curtis Weaver is an extremely exciting 2020 NFL draft prospect who will be able to come in and provide immediate value for whichever team takes him.
