Buffalo Bills 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Adding to the youth
By Ian Higgins
Round 5
Playing in the shadow of former first-round pick Devin White, Michael Divinity has displayed the versatile skill set to be a 4-3 outside linebacker in the NFL. Divinity is a strong pass-rusher who can matchup against interior lineman with his speed and quickness. He has the range to move from boundary to boundary and can match up in zone coverage across the middle of the field.
Buffalo has a linebacking group highlighted by young star Tremaine Edmunds, only supported by Lorenzo Alexander and Matt Milano. Divinity is the type of ballplayer to round out this linebacking group and will only grow over time.
Rookie goal: Rotational coverage linebacker
As a converted corner out of Utah, Julian Blackmon has excelled at safety. Blackmon has retained his cornerback skillset from past years, making him a perfect candidate for a nickel corner and rotational safety at the NFL level.
Buffalo sports one of the best safety tandems in the NFL, and will only bolster the unit with the addition of a young, versatile talent like Blackmon. He will need to bolster himself physically to matchup against NFL players but will be able to contribute in coverage from day one.
Rookie goal: Rotational nickel corner
Round 6
A big-body fullback and running back out of Nevada, Kelton Moore can provide lead run blocking as well as supplementation for new lead-back Devin Singletary. At 240 pounds, Moore is a dominant back who can use his size to bowl over defenders and punish run defenders.
Behind Singletary, Moore can provide supplemental rushing production with the impending departure of Frank Gore, and give a complimenting skillset to current backup running back T.J. Yeldon.
Rookie goal: Backup power back
Currently seen as a defensive tackle/end at Arkansas, McTelvin Agim has shown a combination of athletic stiffness and explosiveness off of the line of scrimmage that can be polished during his rookie year. At 270 lbs, Agim will be able to contribute as a strong edge-setter against the run.
On a currently stacked Buffalo Bills interior defensive line, Agim will need to slim down and focus on becoming more fluid as an edge defender. Agim can become a complement to the previously mentioned Roche as a situational run defender and strong presence on the edge.
Rookie goal: Sub-package run defender
An undersized, speedy wideout from Tulane, Mooney has a similar skill set to the current Buffalo receiving leader John Brown. With strong after the catch ability, Mooney is a dynamic player who can develop into an explosive playmaker with contributions on special teams.
With potential mentor John Brown on the roster, Mooney can learn and develop his skill set to be used best as an after the catch producer and field stretcher. Deep draft picks like this are best used on athletically gifted talents who can become explosive players like Tyreek Hill.
Rookie goal: Backup wideout, sub-package deep threat & screen target
An undersized tight end, running back hybrid, Calcaterra has the speed at the position to be a mismatch nightmare for NFL linebackers. He won’t be able to contribute in the run game though until he is able to put on the weight to match up with NFL defensive ends.
The Buffalo Bills have both Dawson Knox and Tyler Kroft on their roster, fitting into the typical receiving tight end mold. With a late sixth-round waiver pick, why not take a chance on an undersize tight end who could become a mismatch weapon?
