Second round

46. player. 87. Jared Pinkney. TE. Vanderbilt. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Greg Olsen has begun to show his age, and Cam Newton will always love having a tight end as his security blanket. Any quarterback loves having a sure-handed 6’5″ target who can also help in pass protection.

Carolina will look to build around their running game and young star Christian Mccaffrey, and this big-body tight end can contribute through both the air and ground games.

Pinkney is already a soft-handed receiver with big-man after the catch abilities. Similar to Rob Gronkowski, Pinkney is a big man who needs multiple defenders to take him down.

Pinkney will continue to be a strong receiver who mismatches with his size. He will need to continue to develop his run-blocking and route running to be viable though, as tight ends who can run block and win on basic wideout concepts have the most value (aka Rob Gronkowski).

Round 3 (projected trade with Chargers)

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 13. OT. Texas Tech. Terence Steele. 73

With the Chargers selection acquired through our mock Kyle Allen trade, Carolina will be bolstering their offensive line with a physically gifted tackle. Terence Steele measures in at 6’6″, 310 pounds and uses his size and strength to physically dominate at the line of scrimmage.

Carolina is beginning to show their age and lack of depth on the offensive line and adding a year one swing-tackle who can compete physically from the start will help the Carolina running game substantially. When Steele has his time to start, Carolina can be confident in Steele to physically dominate on the outside.

Steele will need to develop his hand usage and technique in his first year(s) but will be able t physically compete from the beginning. His most effective use would likely be as a swing-tackle and sub-package tight end for power sets with his size and power on the outside of the offensive line.
