New York Jets 2020 NFL Draft: 7-round mock draft
The New York Jets go back to the Oregon offensive line here, snagging Shane Lemieux in the fourth round of this 2020 NFL draft scenario. Lemieux has a nice combination of quickness and power on the inside. He is mobile enough to reach the second level in the run game and shows great awareness in pass protection. The New York Jets continue to attack their offensive line need with the selection of Lemieux in the fourth.
I don’t love waiting so long to attack the Jets’ cornerback need, but here we are. There just were not any other good opportunities to give them a cornerback before now. Here, the Jets add Nebraska cornerback Lamar Jackson to the mix.
Jackson is a big and long cornerback prospect who shows impressive press coverage skills. He is active and strong at the line of scrimmage and shows enough quickness to maintain man coverage against many receivers. Jackson is a bit of a raw player, but his combination of size, length and athleticism make him an interesting player at an important position of need.
Cornerback is a major need for the New York Jets. Since we waited so long to address the position, I decided to double up at cornerback here. Levonta Taylor is a former top recruit who is a natural cover corner. He has quick feet and shows strong ball skills. Taylor is certainly a bit on the small side, but he is a strong cover cornerback who could play a major role for this team.
With Le’Veon Bell under contract, running back is far from a major need for the New York Jets. That being said, you can always use some depth at the position. With their final 2020 NFL draft pick of this mock, the Jets bring in TCU running back Sewo Olonilua.
At 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Olonilua is a massive running back prospect. He shows obvious power with the ball in his hands and is surprisingly quick and explosive for a man of his size. Olonilua lacks ideal ball carrier vision and has had his fair share of off-field issues. However, his combination of power and speed gives him obvious upside at the next level and makes him a potentially massive steal as a seventh-round selection.
