Pick Analysis. 2. Scouting Report. Edge Rusher. Ohio State. Chase Young. player. 31

A steal with the second overall pick? That’s looking more and more likely as well. With the Bengals needing to go quarterback at one, that leaves the best overall player in the 2020 NFL Draft for the New York Giants here at two.

Chase Young has been about as dominant as you can be in college football. Watching Ohio State games, Young finds his way to the quarterback on nearly every single pass play. He can use brute force to go right through blocks or a wide array of moves to avoid engaging with the tackle and working his way around to make a play.

Despite a two-game suspension, Young leads the NCAA in sacks with 16.5 through 10 games to this point on the season. That is the single-season sack record for Ohio State already, in a school’s history that has seen its fair share of elite pass rushers. Young also leads the nation in forced fumbles and is third in tackles for a loss, proving that he can make plays in the backfield against the run as well.

After trading Olivier Vernon to the Browns last offseason and with Jason Pierre-Paul becoming ancient history in NY (let alone the days of Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, and Michael Strahan) the Giants desperately need a force on the edge. There is no one better on the market than Chase Young.

While Young may not be the best fit for the Giants’ current 3-4 defense, this can wreak havoc in any scheme. He can stand up and rush the passer as an outside linebacker, put his hand on the ground and set the edge in a four-man front, or even bounce inside and fill in as a 3-4 defensive end.

As a true Heisman Trophy candidate on the defensive side of the ball, Young’s dominance is undeniable. He would come in and immediately be a force for any team that drafts him. The first non-quarterback needy team on the board should be running this pick up to the podium in the 2020 NFL Draft.
