14. player. 28. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver. Alabama. Henry Ruggs III. Pick Analysis

After the Antonio Brown saga this offseason in Oakland, the Raiders find themselves in desperate need of wide receiver help. While they have been playing pretty well this season without any big-named guys, a receiving corps of Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow and Trevor Davis isn’t exactly optimal.

While they have a big-bodied receiver on the outside in Williams and a shifty slot target in Renfrow, Henry Ruggs III would bring the element of speed and explosiveness that the Raiders lack right now.

Ruggs is an absolute burner who may be able to break some 40-yard dash records at the 2020 NFL Draft Combine. Ruggs can blow right by his defender with ease and has the ball skills to locate, track and catch any ball thrown his way. As a former basketball player, Ruggs can also jump out of the stadium allowing him to go up and grab jump balls over taller defenders even at just 6-foot tall.

While Ruggs is regarding for his blinding speed, don’t overlook his fundamentals as a true, versatile receiver. Ruggs runs crisp routes and can run every route on the tree. He has great hands and body control and is a solid blocker as well.

Derek Carr would love to be able to just launch the ball down the field to an open receiver sprinting through the coverage. Much like his AFC West counterpart Patrick Mahomes has in Tyreek Hill, Ruggs has that capability. Moving to Las Vegas, Henry Ruggs III brings that showtime element to a Raiders offense that has lacked that sparked throughout the 2019 season.
