54. Pick Analysis. player. Clemson. Isaiah Simmons. 13. Scouting Report. Linebacker

Another versatile defender, Isaiah Simmons can do a little bit of everything as well. Listed as a linebacker, Simmons can drop back and play safety as well. And if he needed to I’m sure he could put his hand in the ground and play on the line too.

Through 12 games, Simmons has seven sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss, 84 total tackles and five passes defended. Simmons has never really had one true position, so he has learned to do them all well.

As a linebacker in the middle of the field, he can roam sideline to sideline with ease to make plays. Playing around the line of scrimmage, he can blow blockers to blow up plays in the backfield. When he drops into coverage as a safety he has great instincts and ball skills and can even cover tight ends and receivers man to man in the slot.

The Eagles defense has struggled a lot this season. At all levels of the defense, Philly has had its flaws in 2019. They haven’t been able to get pressure on the quarterback at the level that I’m sure they would like to, they have struggled to wrap up and bring down ball carriers and the secondary has struggled mightily against opposing wide receivers. Simmons could realistically help in all three areas.

A true unicorn, Simmons will be able to fill a unique role in Jim Schwartz’s defense. Wherever they ask him to play, Simmons will contribute. He has the potential to have a rookie season similar to that of Derwin James a year ago if put in the right situation.

The Eagles have a talented roster but do need help at linebacker (Kamu Grugier-Hill and Nate Gerry are starting next to Nigel Bradham). Playing outside linebacker, Simmons could contribute in all sorts of ways right away for an Eagles team that will look to get back to the Super Bowl as soon as they can.
