New York Giants seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft
Linebacker stands out as an obvious need for the New York Giants and I would not be surprised to see them fill the need earlier than this. That being said, the right opportunity did not present itself until the fifth round of this mock draft. Here, the Giants bring Northwestern Paddy Fisher into the mix.
Fisher is an extremely tough and smart linebacker prospect who shows great instincts at the position. He is tough and productive against the run and is quicker and more athletic than he is given credit for. Fisher is not the most explosive athlete at the linebacker position, but he can get the job done. Nice value for the Giants here.
JD Spielman is a quick and smooth route runner who does a great job of creating separation against man coverage. He is efficient with his movements and simply knows how to create space. Spielman also shows good quickness and elusiveness with the ball in his hands, consistently creating extra yardage after the catch. The Giants find a nice offensive playmaker here late.
The New York Giants have Daniel Jones as their franchise quarterback, but what does it hurt to take a chance on another quarterback late in the draft? I like it when teams take a flyer on a quarterback late. You just never know what these guys can turn in to.
Here, the Giants take a flyer on Anthony Gordon out of Washington State. Gordon is a smart quarterback who shows solid accuracy to all fields. However, it is his arm talent that makes him stand out. Gordon has a rocket for a right arm, showing the ability to hit the deep ball with ease and fit passes into tight spaces with velocity when needed. He is a talented guy who could end up being a valuable late-round selection.
Khaleke Hudson does a bit of everything for the Michigan defense. He is listed as a linebacker by Michigan but has also played safety, edge and even some slot cornerback. Hudson is a quick and shifty defender who moves well in space and is strong against the run. He has also shown some upside as a pass rusher.
I would like to see Hudson improve in coverage, but no seventh-round prospect is perfect. He is a talented and versatile guy who fits the modern NFL well. At worst, Hudson would be a strong special teams contributor for the New York Giants.
