According to a recent report, the Los Angeles Chargers may be looking for a new quarterback this offseason.

It has been an ugly season for Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers this season. The Chargers have limped to a 4-7 record and do not appear to be ready to turn it around any time soon. The play of the 37-year-old Rivers has been a major reason for their struggles.

On one hand, Rivers’ numbers do not look too bad. Through 11 games, he has completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns. However, his 14 interceptions tell a pretty strong story.

Rivers is starting to show his age this season and has turned the ball over a ton. He is making bad decisions and is coupling them with many lame-duck throws. The supporting cast of the Los Angeles Chargers is not doing him many favors (in particular, the offensive line), but Rivers appears to be on the downslide of his career.

On Sunday, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported the possibility that Rivers and the Chargers will part ways this offseason.

"“There is a very real chance that Philip Rivers is not back with the Chargers in 2020,” La Canfora wrote. “Rivers, who turns 38 in December, has continued to commute to work from San Diego, where the team formerly played, and is a free agent at the end of the season. There have been no inroads toward a contract extension, sources said, and none planned.”"

It sure would be odd to see Rivers in anything other than a Chargers uniform. Despite his lack of post-season success, Rivers is one of the most productive and influential players in franchise history. He will likely be a Hall of Fame player someday and we will all remember him for his time with the San Diego and Los Angeles Chargers.

That being said, the NFL is a business and anything could happen. If Rivers does move to a new team this offseason, it will be interesting to see if he can turn it back around with a change of scenery. The Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers stand out as specific fits for Rivers, but I would imagine that any team with a quarterback need would be interested.
