2020 NFL Draft: Predicting where top QB prospects will land
This quarterback-only mock draft scenario leaves the Miami Dolphins in a very interesting position.
Justin Herbert would have easily been the QB1 of the 2019 NFL Draft had he declared himself eligible, so it’s not like getting him at fourth overall is a reach or a huge surprise based on the type of prospect he is.
It’s just that Miami fans have probably had their sights set on Tua Tagovailoa for over a year at this point, and ending up with Herbert because they won a couple of meaningless regular season games would be a little bit disappointing.
With that said, there’s nothing to be disappointed about regarding drafting Herbert, at least as of right now. His potential is huge with a big arm, vastly improved accuracy, and tremendous improvement from his junior to senior season in terms of just reading the field, seeing coverages, anticipating throws, and playing with a chip on his shoulder.
Herbert has QB1 traits, work habits, and athleticism, so the Dolphins may be getting the QB3 in this scenario, but Herbert is undoubtedly a QB1 type of prospect with everything you could ask for from a young player at the position.
