Running Back: D’Andre Swift, Georgia

Following a draft with a generational talent such as Saquon Barkley, it is impossible to find a name in college football that lives up to the mythical status Barkley achieved during his time at Penn State.

This 2020 NFL draft running back pool does provide a mix of talent from the power of Johnathan Taylor to the shiftiness and explosiveness of D’Andre Swift.

Swift’s most impressive attribute that appears snap after snap on tape is his ability to get to speed within his first few steps in the backfield. Much of the Bulldogs blocking schemes left backside defenders in open space to attempt to chase down Swift, and time after time they were unsuccessful due to how quickly Swift is able to get to and through the hole.

Along with this explosive burst, Swift has great vision to recognize the best running lanes in between the tackles, and still possesses the ability to bounce a run outside and gain the edge on the defense.

Few running backs will ever live up to the high bar set by Barkley, but Swift offers a unique skillset not often seen in rookie running backs. Few running backs are able to beat backside defenders on such a consistent basis, and that not often seen acceleration will be highly valued at the next level.
