Denver Broncos 2020 mock draft: Dominating the trenches
First round
If the Broncos can find a way to re-sign one of Derek Wolfe or Shelby Harris (they might try to re-sign both), then the pick of Derrick Brown makes even more sense for Denver.
Right now, Brown and South Carolina’s Javon Kinlaw are the two most disruptive interior defensive players in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Brown has been absolutely unblockable in recent weeks, and in Vic Fangio’s defense, he could perhaps play the role of an Akiem Hicks type of player.
Who knows though? Maybe he would play more on the interior.
Adding a guy like Brown makes everyone better in Denver’s defense, especially up front.
This pick would give the Broncos a hypothetical group next year of:
- Derek Wolfe/Shelby Harris
- Derrick Brown
- Mike Purcell
- Dre’Mont Jones
- DeMarcus Walker
This group is talented, versatile, and if the Broncos can find enough money to bring back both Wolfe and Harris, this would be one of the deepest units in the league.
That’s what the Broncos had when they won Super Bowl 50 up front.
This doesn’t even include the likes of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb off the edge. The Broncos’ defensive front would be tough to go up against weekly if they are able to add Brown to the mix and pull some double teams off their other stars.
