Cleveland Browns 2020 NFL Draft: Complete 7-round mock draft
Cal safety Ashtyn Davis has one of the most interesting stories in the 2020 NFL Draft. When he arrived at Cal in 2014, Davis was a track athlete. He tried out for the football team and made it on to the roster as a walk on the next season, but did not see any playing time that season. Davis spent two years as a major special teams contributor for Cal, before becoming a full-time starter for the team last season.
Davis immediately showed massive ability at the safety position last season and was named a first-team All-Pac 12 player. He has continued his great play this season and is an extremely interesting defensive player to watch for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Davis is a fantastic athlete on the back-end, showing elite play speed and lateral agility at the safety position. He is an explosive downhill player who is not afraid to come up and make plays against the run and shows fantastic range as a deep safety. Davis also shows great natural ball skills and is an extremely smart and instinctive player who always seems to be around the ball.
Safety is currently one of the bigger needs on the Browns’ roster and the position is only going to become more important if they lose Damarious Randall in free agency. Davis is a scheme versatile player who has a chance to be a real impact player at the next level. Whether he takes Randall’s place in the lineup or competes to start next to him, Davis could be a fantastic fit for the Cleveland Browns.
