2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft with four QBs early
A quarterback could be an option for the Denver Broncos here. A lot of that will depend on how Drew Lock looks when he makes his NFL debut this season. However, no matter who is taking snaps under center, the Broncos must improve their offensive line situation. Most notably, they must get better at left tackle.
Garett Bolles has been atrocious at left tackle and is not showing any signs of improvement. It is time for Denver to cut bait with him and find a new left tackle to build around. In this 2020 NFL draft scenario, the Broncos take Tristan Wirfs out of Iowa to fill their hole at tackle.
Wirfs is a freak offensive tackle prospect who has a tremendous combination of power and athleticism up front. Wirfs is quick off of the ball and incredibly powerful at the point of attack. He shows very good competitive toughness, consistently looking to bury defenders in the ground as a run blocker.
Wirfs is an extremely powerful player who uses his lower body strength and powerful hands to consistently dominate his opponent. However, do not sleep on this guy’s ability to move. Wirfs has quick feet for an offensive lineman and can mirror opposing defenders with ease on the edge. He will dominate against most power-based players, but Wirfs will be able to hand speed off of the edge as well.
While he has primarily played right tackle at Iowa, Wirfs did play some left tackle earlier this season, filling in for injured teammate Alaric Jackson. Wirfs was just as dominant on the left side as he is on the right, which helps cement his 2020 NFL draft stock as a top-ten player.
The Broncos desperately need a left tackle. They may have been hesitant to take Wirfs before he proved himself on the left side. Now, there is no hesitation. He is the perfect player for this team here in this 2020 NFL draft scenario.
