Scouting Report. OT. Andrew Thomas. player. 30. Pick Analysis. Georgia. 5

The New York Jets have some nice talent on both sides of the ball. They are not a bad football, they just lack impact players at key specific positions. In particular, the Jets desperately need help at offensive tackle, edge rusher and cornerback. Besides quarterback, those are the most important positions in the NFL right now. Simply put, the Jets need to use the upcoming offseason, including the 2020 NFL Draft, to drastically improve at those three key positions.

If Young or Okudah were available here at number five, they would have both been in consideration. With both players gone, Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas stands out as the obvious choice.

Thomas is a fantastic left tackle prospect who has a great chance to come into the NFL and be an immediate contributor. He is an extremely powerful player who physically manhandles most college players. Thomas is thick and long, which is a fantastic combination for an offensive tackle. He can use his long arms to create space between himself and the defender and once he is engaged, Thomas is dominant.

He gets out of his stance quickly and consistently drives defenders down the field in the run game. Thomas also moves well in pass protection, mirroring the opposing pass rusher with ease. He works hard to establish half-man relationship to the defensive lineman and shows a powerful, accurate punch that stops defenders in their tracks. Thomas also anchors at an extremely high level.

The Jets need to find players who can protect Sam Darnold going forward. Thomas is the best offensive lineman in the 2020 NFL draft class and would be an immediate improvement for the Jets up front.
