2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft with four QBs early
Last week, I mocked Ohio State defensive end Chase Young to the Cincinnati Bengals with the first overall pick. I still stand by that selection as extremely possible when the 2020 NFL Draft rolls around. Young is an absolute star on the defensive side of the ball. He is going to make any team hesitate before taking another player.
That being said, I do think it is more likely that the Bengals attack the quarterback position if they end up picking first overall and Tua Tagovailoa is the most obvious choice.
Tagovailoa is currently dealing with an ankle injury, but it is not expected to be a long-term concern. Tua should be healthy and ready to go as soon as this week. With this pick, the Bengals bring in the safest and most pro-ready quarterback in the 2020 NFL draft class. Tagovailoa could immediately come in and start to reshape the future of this franchise.
He is a smart quarterback prospect who rarely makes a bad decision. Tagovailoa also shows impressive pocket presence and enough mobility to create more time to make plays when needed. Tua also shows good natural arm talent, firing balls into tight spaces with velocity when needed and hitting the deep ball with consistency.
All of that being said, Tagovailoa’s top skill is his accuracy and overall ability to place the football where it needs to be. He is an extremely precise passer who leads his receivers well and knows how to protect them with placement. Tagovailoa consistently puts his passes on a dime and also knows how and when to put touch on his passes.
Simply put, Tagovailoa is a high-level quarterback prospect who has a bright future at the next level. The Bengals have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball, but bringing in Tua to be their franchise quarterback is a huge step in the right direction.
