Denver Broncos: Noah Fant finally has a huge breakout game
Denver Broncos rookie tight end Noah Fant has dealt with some tough times in his first NFL season, but he had a breakout game vs. Cleveland.
The Denver Broncos’ offense has been stifled all of 2019 by quarterback Joe Flacco.
That is, at least, until Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Former sixth-round pick Brandon Allen, a fourth-year player out of Arkansas, started his first NFL game on Sunday in Denver and helped get the Broncos’ offense back on track.
No, seriously.
Specifically, Allen helped get tight end Noah Fant in the mix with some things Fant is undeniably good at, namely making plays in the open field with his speed and athleticism.
Against the Browns, Fant caught three passes for 115 yards including this unbelievable catch-and-run for a touchdown.
There are a couple of great things in this play, things that prove exactly why the Broncos chose Fant in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Fant has had a number of 15-20 yard plays throughout his rookie season, but he’s had a tough go of things lately with some penalties and dropped passes. Playing tight end is hard enough in the NFL, but it’s especially tough for rookies to transition from the college level to the pros.
Fant is as gifted of an athlete as you will find at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, running a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash. He showed off every bit of what that size and speed can do in the long touchdown, but Fant showed off his catch radius as well against the Browns.
This type of performance from Fant can completely change the narrative on his rookie season. He had a night to forget just a couple of weeks ago against the Kansas City Chiefs with a couple of dropped passes and some questionable effort on contested catch opportunities.
Fant vowed after that game that he would never play like that again, and so far, so good.
This was a tremendous breakthrough for the first-round tight end, something that’s been a long time going for both he and the Denver Broncos.
