2019 NFL trade deadline retrospective: Win-now vs. rebuild

Aqib Talib to the Miami Dolphins
Los Angeles Rams receive: ‘Future’ 7th round pick
Miami receives: Aqib Talib & 2020 5th round pick
Miami just acquired an injured salary dump in exchange for trading up from the 7th to the 5th round, as well as having that pick moved forward to match their draft growth curve.
Miami could not ask for a better situation trade-wise, being the first destination for competitors to dump their overpaid players with a tax on their draft assets. Aqib Talib is not predicted to come back until week 15, but could be out for the season if placed on season-ending IR.
Los Angeles has just paid for this salary dump by trading down from the 5th to the 7th round in a future draft.
With the imminent contract disputes for Andrew Whitworth, Dante Fowler Jr, and Jalen Ramsey among others. Talib is an injured player currently not providing any serviceable talent to this roster.
Los Angeles has embraced 2019-2020 will not bring the same success as last season, but that is okay. As long as they can retain their current key pieces and reload with financially-effective talent throughout the defense and offensive line, they can return to their former glory relatively soon.
Los Angeles just paid the tax of having overpaid players, and needed to dump salary. This is still a win for Miami since they were able to improve their draft capital by simply taking on a bloated contract.
