2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft includes Jalen Hurts in the top 15
The Ravens went with a first-round receiver last year and I think they do so again in the 2020 NFL Draft. Providing their new-look Lamar Jackson with sufficient down-field weapons need to be a priority if they want him to continue to develop as a passer.
Similar to Marquise Brown, Laviska Shenault Jr. is a big play waiting to happen. Shenault can take the top off of the defense or he can catch it short and run like a running back. Also a willing blocker, Shenault is some polished route running away from being an incredibly well-rounded receiver.
Even at this point, Shenault may be the most balanced receiver of the 2020 NFL draft class, outside of the top two. A little bit bigger than Brown, Shenault can be a target in between Brown and Mark Andrews for Jackson as he continues to grow as a pocket passer.
The Vikings are one of the most interesting teams to keep an eye on for the 2020 NFL Draft. They have a very solid roster with very few holes. So what’s keeping them from contending for a Super Bowl? Well, to this point it has been their quarterback.
Minnesota opted to throw TONS of guaranteed money at Kirk Cousins in 2018. While Cousins may be finding his stride after an early struggle in 2019, then Vikings may want to invest in another option in case Cousins proves that he is not worth paying.
One of the knocks on Cousins this year (from his own teammate) was that he was unable to connect on the long ball. Well, Jacob Eason shouldn’t have any problem doing that, as he has one of the best arms in the draft.
Eason has the size and arm talent that evaluators look for in an NFL quarterback. He can rip the ball into the tightest of windows and launch it downfield to let his receiver run under it. His size makes him tough to bring down in the pocket and as a scrambler.
If you’re looking for a QB to moe the ball vertically down the field, Eason is your guy. Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen would be thrilled to have such a talented arm under center, and Eason should allow those guys to shine like they have been starting to recently this year with Cousins.
Eason would be able to come in and sit for a year while Cousins finishes out his big contract before the reigns are turned over to him. Especially if this talented Vikings roster doesn’t make a strong playoff run this season, don’t be shocked to see the Vikings go quarterback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and if they do I think Eason is the best fit in this range.
