2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft includes Jalen Hurts in the top 15
The Cowboys don’t have a whole lot of holes on their roster. They have the luxury of taking a talented player with a lot of upside at a position that they could still use some help at. A big and powerful rusher on the interior between Demarcus Lawrence and Robert Quinn would bring a huge boost to an already improved defense.
Raekwon Davis is the clear choice here, as a strong lineman with great length. He is big enough to anchor down and stop the run and shifty enough to make solid pass rush moves on the interior. Coming from Alabama, who has a track record of solid DTs, Davis should be the next in line and may be a steal in the 20s for the Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Dolphins make it back-to-back picks for the Crimson Tide and ultimately land their protector for their shiny new quarterback toward the end of the first round. With the pick that they got from the Texans in exchange for Laremy Tunsil, Miami grabs their new left tackle.
Alex Leatherwood is incredibly athletic for an offensive lineman and has experience at guard before playing left tackle for Bama this season. He is a great run blocker who can turn defenders with ease, and his athleticism gives him a quick first step in pass protection.
While he will still be learning the nuances of the left tackle position, Leatherwood is incredibly talented and has a ton of potential as a franchise blindside protector if he continues to develop at such an impressive pace.
A new quarterback, tackle to protect the quarterback, and a corner to stop opposing quarterbacks from lighting up their secondary? I’d say that’s a pretty solid first round of the 2020 NFL Draft for the tanking Dolphins.
